Dayton Beer Co. won a gold medal for its Mad River Milk Stout in the recent Best of Craft Beer Awards competition in Bend, Ore. The Kettering brewery was the only one honored in the sweet stout category.
"Not only is this our first professional medal but I believe this is the first gold medal any brewery has ever won in Dayton," brewer and owner Pete Hilgeman said in an email.
Dayton Beer opened in 2012.
The Best of Craft Beer Awards judging took place Jan. 25 and 26 with 60 participating breweries and 363 beers, organizer Katie Barnett said. Among the breweries competing were Deschutes, Oskar Blues, 21st Amendment and Stevens Point.
