Fat Head's Brewery and Columbus Brewing Co. collaborated on a special beer for the inaugural Fat Head's Headstrong Strong Ale Fest, which takes place tonight and Saturday (March 22-23) at the brewpub in North Olmsted.
The beer, called Motley Brew, is a Belgian-style dark strong beer made with Belgian yeast, carmelized California golden raisins and rosemary. "It has an earthiness to it and some wine character," Fat Head's brewer and co-owner Matt Cole said. "It's really cool."
The festival features more than 30 beers all clocking in over 8 percent alcohol by volume. Cole said there are plenty of imperial, barleywine and barrel-aged brews.
He added that there will be a heated tent, considering the cold temperatures. The event was originally planned to be held at the production brewery in Middleburg Heights, but was relocated to the brewpub because of licensing issues.
There are three sessions: 6 to 10 p.m. today; noon to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $35 at the door. Tickets were still available Friday afternoon for all sessions.
