Dr. Don Heinrich Tolzmann, an award-winning author and German-American historian, will lead tours of Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood this month and next month.
In addition to German historical sites, such as churches, businesses, parks and monuments, the tour includes older breweries such as Christian Moerlein, Jackson, Clyffside, Lafeyette, Hudepohl, Lackman and Park.
"I also discuss the churches brewers belonged to in OTR and the Romanesque architecture that typified their brewery buildings," Tolzmann said in an email. "My goal is to place breweries in the framework of the whole district, describing all the sites that can be found there and their interrelationship. After the tour, we then stop at one of the newer brewery sites for a beer tasting."
A walking tour is set for 10 a.m. to noon July 20, and carriage tours are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 3 and Aug. 17. Tickets are $20 for the walking tour and $35 for the carriage tour.
