Granite City Food & Brewery announced plans Monday to open a restaurant next year in Lyndhurst in suburban Cleveland. The Minneapolis-based chain had previously said it was looking at the Cleveland market.
Granite City has signed a long-term lease in Legacy Village, an upscale, outdoor mall. The company has 27 restaurants in 13 states, including one in Maumee in suburban Toledo.
"We are excited to continue to expand our concept of an upscale dining experience and great service with reasonably-priced, high quality food and beverages to Ohio," Chief Executive Officer Rob Doran said in a prepared statement. "This new Granite City restaurant will complement our presence in the state where we have an existing location in Maumee, Ohio. We have shown great success in that location and we feel confident that the folks in Cleveland will enjoy our affordable and enjoyable customer experience, along with our hand-crafted brews."
Granite City produces its own line of beers, but doesn't brew at its individual restaurants. Instead, wort is created at an Ellsworth, Iowa, brewery and then shipped to each restaurant to ferment and be served.
