Great Lakes releases baseball-inspired beer

Rally_Drum_Red_Ale_20120402164111_JPGGreat Lakes Brewing Co. will release a new baseball-inspired beer Tuesday, just in time for the Cleveland Indians home opener. Rally Drum Red Ale will be available on draft starting Tuesday exclusively at the brewpub in Cleveland.

It was made in honor of local baseball fan John Adams, who for years has beat a rally drum in the outfield stands at Municipal Stadium and now Progressive Field to urge on the Indians.

Rally Drum Red Ale is an American red ale, "a modern non-traditional style borrowing heavily from characteristics associated with more classical styles such as 'pale ales' or 'bitters,' " Great Lakes said in a prepared statement.

The beer will be tapped at the brewpub Tuesday and served while supplies last. The brewpub will open at 11 a.m. for the Tribe’s home opener Thursday so fans can have a pint before the first pitch. Pub brewer Joel Warger also will serve a special dry-hopped firkin of Rally Drum Red Ale in the brewpub beer cellar starting at 4 p.m. Thursday.
