Green breweries
More breweries are going green. Not with their beer, of course, but in the way they operate. Representatives from Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Cleveland, Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. in Akron and Jackie O's Pub & Brewery in Athens participated in a panel discussion about sustainable energy practices last week during Ohio Brew Week. They talked about issues such as recycling and using local products. "A brewery is the center of a community, and becomes a forum for discussion and debate," Jackie O's owner Art Oestrike said, as reported by the Athens News. "The more you're doing these kind of things, the more the community supports you. If you're working with local farms and organizations, then you're getting it (back) at the cash register."
