The Homestead Beer Co., a new production brewery in Heath, will release its beer to the public starting this week. Great Granville Riot, an India pale ale, will be delivered Wednesday to Brews Cafe in Granville, The Broadway Pub in Granville, Bella/Da Vinci Lounge in Granville, Snapshots in Granville and the Red Oak Pub in Newark. Tenpenny Ale, an amber, should be available this weekend or next week.
"It’s super exciting," co-owner Kevin Atkinson said. "We’ve been at this for nearly 24 months now. We finally got everything in order. We’ve brewed four beers. We’re just super psyched to get them out to the bars. We think the public will enjoy them and we’re excited for them to come along for the ride with us."
Homestead also will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday (Jan. 25) for 32-ounce and 64-ounce growler sales. Four beers will be available. In addition to Great Granville Riot and Tenpenny, the brewery will offer 1805, a pale ale, and Pine Table Ale, an American session beer. On Friday, the brewery will offer a special, with a 32-ounce fill costing $3 and a 64-ounce fill costing $6. (The actual growler is extra.)
The brewery will be open those hours each Friday for growler sales. But Homestead doesn't have a taproom, so beer won't be available by the glass.
Homestead, which doesn't bottle its beers, plans to make session ales. "We're focused on producing beer that's about flavor, not alcohol," Atkinson said. "So our beers will be quite sessionable within the range of 4 percent to 6 percent ABV. We're always striving to find the proper balance that great beer is all about."
Homestead is focusing its initial distribution on the Granville-Newark-Heath area, with an eye down the road to move into the Greater Columbus market.
