Hoppin' Frog wins blind pumpkin beer tasting
Hoppin' Frog Brewery's Frog's Hollow Double Pumpkin Ale won the third annual blind pumpkin beer tasting last weekend at Vintage Estate Wine & Beer in Boardman.
The event is unusual because beer drinkers sample a variety of pumpkin beers without knowing the brand that they are tasting. They rate them based on appearance, taste and aroma. The beer with the highest overall score wins. Fifty-five people participated this year.
Hoppin' Frog finished with an average score of 11.07 out of 15. Southern Tier Pumking and Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin finished second and third, respectively.
The other beers tasted were: Shipyard Pumpkinhead, Samuel Adams Fat Jack, Heavy Seas The Great Pumpkin, Dogfish Head Punkin, Horny Goat Hornycopia, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, Rivertown Pumpkin, North Peak Hooligan, Tommyknocker Small Patch, Hoppin Frog Frog’s Hollow, Acardia Jaw-Jacker and O’Fallon Pumpkin.
