Jackie O’s brewer Brad Clark is one of the most creative and prolific brewers in Ohio. That’s one of the reasons craft beer drinkers visit Athens — to find out what new, and often innovative, brew is being served at the brewpub.
But now with its beer available in cans in many Ohio markets and some fan favorites like Dark Apparition and Oil of Aphrodite hitting stores in 375ml bottles thanks to a new production brewery, will there be less of a reason to visit the actual brewery?
Owner Art Oestrike hopes not. He is vowing to keep some special brews just for release in Athens. And those special bottle releases aren’t going away, either.
“I think it’s important to build our tourism industry in Athens,” Oestrike said last week.
There are realistically only a couple of reasons to visit the community, he said. There’s Ohio University, obviously. Some music events. And then there’s Ohio Brew Week and Jackie O’s.
Oestrike said he sees Jackie O's as a part of the tourism scene and wants to keep giving people a reason to come to the community.
Speaking of beer releases, Razz Wheat will find its way into cans this summer. Oestrike said it will be the final Jackie O’s brand released in a can. The others already out on the market are: Chomolungma, Firefly Amber, Mystic Mama and Hop Ryot.
