Wooster Fire Fighters Local 764 and the Wooster Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association have teamed up with the JAFB Wooster Brewery for a fundraiser to help a woman who was critically burned in an arson.
The event is 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (June 18) at the brewery, which will donate $1 for every beer sold to the Nicole L. Reischman Benevolent Fund at First Merit Bank. There will be free appetizers, 50/50 raffles, door prizes and silent raffles.
Reischman was hurt June 8 in a fire that also injured two other people and two police officers, according to the Wooster Daily Record newspaper. A 22-year-old homeless man has been charged with aggravated arson.
Les Teichmer, president of the firefighters union, said he approached brewery owner Paul Fryman about holding the fundraiser at the brewery.
"Paul had heard about the fire and was immediately in favor of the idea," Teichmer said in an email. "Paul not only offered to let us hold the fundraiser at the brewery, he proposed several ways he could basically subsidize the event by donating a portion of his sales during the event ... When thinking of holding a fundraiser, the Wooster Brewery immediately came to mind. Along with great beer, the patrons and staff are always friendly and it has a eclectic type community atmosphere. The huge rustic log tables hold two or three parties each. You will sit at a table elbow to elbow with complete strangers from all walks of life. Students, professors and businessmen to cops and firemen."
