Two Ohio breweries are headed to this year’s Sun King CANvitational — a beer festival in Indianapolis dedicated to canned craft beers.
MadTree and Rhinegeist, both from Cincinnati, are among the more than 40 breweries participating in the second annual event. The festival is set for Sept. 20 on Pan Am Plaza and Georgia Street in Indianapolis.
Both breweries are psyched to attend and spread the word about quality craft beer being available in a can.
“We’re going because this is the finest type of festival,” Rhinegeist co-founder Bryant Goulding said in an email. “[Sun King owner and brewer] Clay [Robinson] reached out to a bunch of us canning breweries and there will be beers there from outside the market and area and a lot of positive energy corresponding with bringing a bunch of like-headed knuckleheads together for a fest. Cans are a great vessel for beer (arguably the best) and we’re thrilled to be a part of this canning revolution crashing across the country right now.”
Brady Duncan, co-founder of MadTree, said there are several reasons his brewery — the first modern craft brewery to can in Ohio — will be there.
“First off, it’s a chance to showcase our beer to new consumers,” he said in an email. “Given the high demand in Greater Cincinnati and Dayton, we don’t get many opportunities to share beyond these markets. Second, we love the opportunity to pour and share beer with some of the best craft breweries in the world. The breweries at this event are top notch and we are excited to be in such great company and representing Ohio along with Rhinegeist. Third, it should be an awesome time. From my interactions with the Sun King guys, they do it right.”
Along with MadTree and Rhinegeist, others slated to participate include 21st Amendment, Cigar City, Bell’s, Brooklyn, New Belgium, Oskar Blues and Revolution.
MadTree will be pouring its PsycHOPathy IPA, Gnarly Brown, Happy Amber, Lift (Kolsch) and The Great PumpCan.
Meanwhile, Rhinegeist is bringing Truth IPA, Cougar Blonde, Zen Session Pale and Franz Oktoberfest. It also will serve its Imperial IPA Saber Tooth Tiger.
