When Holly Nesbitt was named Miss Ohio Brew Week earlier this year, she did cartwheels. Literally.
The over-the-top reaction isn’t that surprising given the 21-year-old Canton resident is a physical education major with a minor in dance at Ohio University. Oh, and she’s a Zumba instructor, too.
Nesbitt, wearing her festival sash, described her response during a recent media event at Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon in North Olmsted.
As Miss Ohio Brew Week, she will be the face of the eighth annual event, which runs June 21 to 29 in Athens, Ohio. Her job will be talking up Ohio craft beer, mingling with beer drinkers at various events and introducing the keynote speaker, Bill Metzger, publisher of the Brewing News newspapers.
"She’s very enthusiastic," organizer Dan Gates said. "And that’s what we need, an enthusiastic person to constantly say that Ohio Brew Week is the greatest place to go."
Asked to name a favorite Ohio-made craft beer, Nesbitt picked a fruit beer from Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery in Athens.
"I’m keen to Jackie O’s Razz Wheat," she said. "Gotta support my hometown. And my favorite fruit is raspberries. ... Almost weekly I have to stop into Jackie O’s and get a Razz Wheat."
