Mt. Carmel Brewing Co. in Cincinnati, Heidelberg Distributing Co. of Columbus and Casa Nueva in Athens are teaming up to hold a beer benefit to raise money for charity groups in Athens. The inaugural Pints of Change event is from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday (April 4) at Casa Nueva in Athens.
“We’ve met great people and have become a part of a special town in our trips to Athens,” owner and brewmaster Mike Dewey said in a prepared statement. “We wanted to support what makes the town so unique.”
Organizations such as Rural Action, Community Food Initiatives, the Buckeye Trail, My Sister’s Place and Blue Eagle Music will be paired with Mt. Carmel’s beers. The beers will go to patrons and the proceeds will go to support the charity.
Mt. Carmel has an Athens tie. Patrick Clark, a 2008 Ohio University graduate, works as assistant brewer and brand manager.
“We released our beers into Athens shortly after I graduated from OU,” Clark said. “It makes you feel proud seeing our beer enjoyed on this town's porches.”
The Thursday event coincides with Mt. Carmel's weeklong tap takeover at Casa Nueva, with evening events beginning Tuesday and going on through Ohio University's annual Mom's Weekend.
