Ohio homebrewers win at national event
Four Ohio homebrewers won top awards in the National Homebrew Competition, the largest beer competition in the world sponsored by the American Homebrewers Association. Winners were announced Saturday at the National Homebrewers Conference in Seattle. Overall, there were 7,800 entries in 28 style categories.
The Ohio winners were:
-- Gautam Bagchi of Columbus and a member of the Scioto Olentangy and Darby Zymurgists: first place for his German pilsner in the pilsner category.
-- Jane Zalewski of Proctorville and a member of the Greater Huntington Homebrewers Association: second place for a specialty beer in the specialty beer category.
-- Brian Lennon of Brecksville and a member of the Society of Northeast Ohio Brewers: third place for his Munich helles in the light lager category.
-- Keith Taylor of Oregonia and a member of the Bloatarian Brewing League: third place for his strong Scotch ale in the Scottish and Irish ale category.
