Stone Brewing Co. may be in Southern California, but one of its biggest beer markets is Ohio. A recent blog post on the site Hollywood Today mentioned that Ohio is one of the brewer's top states for sales.
That is true.
"Ohio has been a top area for us for as long as we've been there," said Arlan Arnsten, Stone vice president of sales. "I can't remember when they were outside of our top five markets."
Ohio is No. 4 right now behind Texas, Arizona and Colorado. (Again, that's not counting California.). "Growth in Ohio is very strong; above 30 percent and will likely pass Colorado this year to end up in the No. 3 spot," Arnsten said.
Stone arrived in Ohio in 2002 and is distributed by Cavalier Distributing.
"Ohio was one of our first -- the first? -- of our Midwestern/East Coast states," co-founder Greg Koch said. "Cavalier Distributing aggressively pursued the idea of bringing Stone into the state, and they deserve a lot of the credit for our presence in the state. I grew up in Pataskala, Ohio (halfway between Columbus and Newark), and went to OSU for my first two years, so I have a lot of Ohio ties. I think I have a strong kindred spirit with Ohio!"
