Ohio Tap Room opening in Columbus

By Rick Armon Published: February 11, 2013

ohio tap roomJohn Evans is gung-ho on the craft beer scene in Ohio. He’s so upbeat, in fact, that he’s opening the Ohio Tap Room, a retail business in Columbus that will be dedicated to Ohio-made brews.

“All Ohio. Only Ohio,” said Evans, who’s opening the business with his wife Stephanie. “We’d love to have everyone represented and we’ll strive to get everybody from around the state on tap at some point.”

The Ohio Tap Room, which is expected to open in early April on West Third Avenue, will have 20 to 25 taps. It will focus on draft beer and to-go growler sales when it opens. A little later, they plan to offer beer by the glass. They also will feature Ohio-made meads, ciders and sodas, and items such as pretzels and nuts.

“We think there’s enough fantastic product coming out the state to justify the concept,” said Evans, whose background is in golf course consulting. His wife is a photographer. “We’re lifelong residents of the state and just want to support and promote what the craft folks in our state do.”

The retail space is small, only about 450 square feet. But there is an outdoor patio.

The Ohio Tap Room will offer a membership or loyalty program when it opens, but those details are still being worked out. Evans said he’s already heard positive feedback from people around the state, and he might look to open other Ohio Tap Rooms.

Any Ohio brewer is welcome to contact Evans directly at 614-315-8247.
