Oliver House opens bottle shop; Blitzen coming

By Rick Armon Published: October 25, 2012

BlitzenThe Oliver House, home of the Maumee Bay Brewing Co. in Toledo, has opened a new specialty craft beer and wine shop called The Middle Grounds Market. It's the only shop of its kind in downtown Toledo.

"Downtown Toledo now has the highest residency numbers they've seen in a very long time," said Shannon Mohr of Maumee Bay. "At our brewery, we have so many excited craft beer drinkers that opening a bottle shop just seemed like a natural progression. Not to mention the amount of wine drinkers we have coming in to Rockwell's steakhouse regularly. Now, we can offer not only our wine list, but any wine available in the market itself (for a corking fee)."

Middle Grounds Market offers weekly beer and wine tastings, too. The beer tastings are $10 and held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays.

As for Maumee Bay beer news, Blitzen, the brewery's holiday beer, will be released on draft Nov. 1 and will be available for retail sales outside the pub Nov. 5. Maumee Bay also is expanding into six-packs for its IPA in December and plans to have four-packs of its Amarillo Brillo Double IPA and Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout available by February.
