Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. in Akron has created a special pawpaw beer for the 15th annual Ohio Pawpaw Festival, which takes place from Sept. 13-15 at Lake Snowden in Albany. The brew, called Saison Pawpaw, is a Belgian-style farmhouse saison.
It's a saison infused with pawpaw, a fruit that has a tropical quality and is native to Ohio. Thirsty Dog used a pound of pawpaw for every two barrels of beer, co-owner John Najeway said. The beer is 8.1 percent alcohol by volume.
Saison Pawpaw is draft only. It will be available at the festival -- obviously. It's also on tap now at the Thirsty Dog tasting room, and will be available at select locations throughout Norheast Ohio, Columbus and Perrysburg.
Thirsty Dog is one of six breweries that made a special pawpaw beer for the event. The others are: Weasel Boy, Jackie O's, Buckeye, Marietta and Black Box. To check out all the pawpaw brews that will be available at the festival, click here.
