UPDATED: Ohio craft beer is booming
UPDATED: Ohio beer drinkers know that the craft beer business is booming here in the state. As part of my job writing the Akron Beacon Journal beer blog, I try to keep up with all the new breweries and beer news statewide. It's not an easy task. In fact, it's downright overwhelming at times.
During a recent trip to Dayton to speak before the DRAFT homebrewing club, I decided to compile a list of all the breweries that had opened within the last several months or had announced they planned to open either this year or next. It was a good exercise for me.
The list is huge and I'm not sure the word "booming" is appropriate anymore. What's greater than booming? There are more than 30 craft breweries that have either opened or plan to open since the release of my book Ohio Breweries last September.
Now, some of these breweries have applied for a brewing license from the state already. Some aren't at that point yet.
Here's a rundown of the ones that I'm aware of -- and there are surely many more out there that I haven't heard about yet. (If you know of any that I missed, please send me an email at rarmon@thebeaconjournal.com and I will add them to the list.)
