UPDATED: Three Ohio breweries won medals at the Great American Beer Festival last weekend in Denver, highlighted by a gold for Weasel Boy Brewing Co. in Zanesville.
Weasel Boy's Anastasia Russian Imperial Stout bested 57 other entries in the competitive imperial stout category. This isn't the first medal for the beer. Anastasia won a bronze at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival.
Fat Head's Brewery & Saloon in North Olmsted won a silver medal for AlpenGlow in the German-style wheat ale category. Fat Head's has now won medals four consecutive years.
Boston Beer Co. won a silver in the German-style doppelbock or eisbock category for Samuel Adams Double Bock, which is brewed at the company's Cincinnati facility. It's the first win for the Cincinnati brewery, according to the GABF website.
Last year, only two Ohio breweries won medals. Overall, there were 4,338 entries this year from 666 breweries in 84 categories. To see the complete list of winners, click here.
