Willoughby Brewing Co. is helping turn TownHall’s one-year anniversary into a can-niversary. The Willoughby brewpub made a special batch of its Hazy Days wheat beer using Mosaic hops and, with the help of Buckeye Canning, put the beer into 16-ounce cans.
The new Hazy Days TownHall Edition will be released starting at 6 p.m. Thursday (May 29) at TownHall’s special bash to celebrate its milestone. TownHall is a craft centric restaurant in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood. Willoughby also kept some of the beer on draft for release at its brewpub.
The limited-edition beer, a hoppy American wheat, is 5.3 percent alcohol by volume and brewmaster Rick Seibt described it as “very fruity and very citrusy.”
He said TownHall approached Willoughby to make something special for the anniversary and that's how the Hazy Days TownHall Edition came to be.
It’s the first beer that Willoughby has ever canned. Years ago, under previous ownership, the brewpub hand-bottled some batches. With Hazy Days TownHall Edition under its belt, Willoughby is looking into releasing a few other brands in cans in the future.
“It worked pretty well," Seibt said about the canning process. "We’re really satisfied with the results. It was really cool to pop open your can and have your beer in cans. Everything we’ve done is draft up until this point, at least in the new era.”
Besides offering Hazy Days TownHall Edition, TownHall also put together a “Badass Beer List” for the party. “The B.A Beer List is a collection of 31 rarities, brewpub exclusives and selections that have never been poured in Ohio," in-house beer connoisseur Mark Frabot said in a news release.
Those beers include selections from Stone, Three Floyds, Southern Tier, Revolution and Bell's. (See image below for the full list.)
There also will be live music, food, a four-tier vegan cake from Vegan Sweet Tooth, and an ice cream created by Mitchell’s Ice Cream.
