Willoughby Brewing Co. in Willoughby will host a Starkbier Fest at 1 p.m. Saturday (April 5).
The tasting event -- which focuses on strong beers -- will feature Willoughby BDA Russian Imperial Stout, Willoughby She's Soo Heavy Scottish Strong Ale, Willoughby-The Brew Kettle Barrel-aged Collaborator Doppelbock, The Brew Kettle Jack Hammer Barley Wine, Fat Head's Battle Axe Baltic Porter and Great Lakes Chillwave Double IPA. The brewpub also has secured a special keg of Schlenkerla Fastenbier for the occasion.
The strong beers run the gamut of high-alcohol styles and Willoughby brewmaster Rick Seibt and other Willoughby brewers will discuss the beers and styles during the tasting. The event also will include food, but the specific menu is still being worked on.
Starkbier Fest marks the debut of the brewpub's first-ever Russian imperial stout. The beer clocks in just under the state limit on alcohol-by-volume at 11.5 percent. What's BDA stand for? Seibt declined to say publicly in advance of the tasting. He said he would reveal the full name at the event.
Tickets are $40 and include a souvenir glass, 6- to 8-ounce pours and food. Tickets are limited, with seating for only about 60 people or so. They can be purchased at the brewpub or reservations can be made by calling 440-975-0202.
