Zauber Brewing Co. owner Geoff Towne says it’s time to welcome spring. And he’s going to provide the perfect opportunity.
His Grandview brewery will host Maifest — “it’s a spring version of Octoberfest,” he says — from 3 to 8 p.m. May 10. Maifest, which celebrates the arrival of spring, is a popular tradition in Europe.
"Our idea is to adopt the holiday as our own," Towne says.
The German-themed, family-friendly event will be held in the Goodwill parking lot next to the Zauber brewery. There will be beer, of course, from Zauber and other local brewers Four String, Sideswipe and Barley's Smokehouse. Schmidt’s Sausage Haus, Matt the Miller’s, Jeni’s Ice Cream and German band Cheese with Music also will be there.
Maifest, which is presented by Zauber and the Grandview Craft Beer Alliance, is free to attend. You just pay for the beer you drink and food you eat.
Towne says he wants to hold similar outdoor events each month, with future ones likely being more focused on food trucks.
In other brewery news, Towne reports that his new 20-barrel brewhouse and other equipment is slated to arrive next week. He’s been working on a nano-system while waiting for his Newlands Systems equipment.
Towne expects to spend the next month and a half or so getting the system operational.
“We’re anxiously waiting to stare at our new stainless steel,” he says. “We’re definitely excited to get going.”
