1590 WAKR & Tribe renew broadcast deal

By Stephanie Storm Published: February 11, 2013

For at least the next three years, Indians fans in the Akron area can continue to tune into 1590 WAKR to hear Tribe games.

"The Cleveland Indians have been an important part of our summers at 1590/WAKR for longer than any of us can remember - longer even than the Flagship station in Cleveland,” President & General Manager Thom Mandel said in a press release.  “I am thrilled to be able to call WAKR "The Akron Home of the Cleveland Indians" for another three years."

The season will begin with live broadcasts from Spring training on Feb. 22 against Cincinnati featuring the Voice of the Indians Tom Hamilton & Jim Rosenhaus.  WAKR’s own Ray Horner will broadcast his morning show live, from Spring training, the week of February 25.

WAKR is part of the Rubber City Radio Group, Inc., that includes 97.5 WONE and 94.9 WQMX, in Akron, and 107.3 WNWV-The WAVE in Cleveland.
