The four-game losing streak has ended as the Indians beat the White Sox 9-4 last night at The Prog.
Eric Wedge had a lot of good tidbits about the Indians moving forward.
-- Grady Sizemore could be moving down in the order. The lead off hitter is struggling this year as he is third in the American League in strikeouts (36) and is in a 3-21 slump. For the season he is hitting .226 with an On base percentage of .310.
A pair of second basemen could slide into the lead off spot if the move happens.
Asdrubal Cabrera is hitting the ball extremely well this year. (.325 avg/.397 OBP/ .417 SLG), but Wedge may not want to move him out of the two spot. Jamey Carroll could be activated from the disabled list any day now. He would also be a viable candidate to lead off.
-- Wedge is also considering another, possibly inevitable, move he has always shied away from: moving short stop Jhonny Peralta to third base. That would mean Cabrera would slide to short and Mark DeRosa would go to first base. He can also play second base and a corner outfield spot.
Luis Valbuena would benefit with more playing time at second in this scenario. The Indians would clearly become a better defensive team with these moves.
-- Matt LaPorta has also been getting a lot of pregame work at first base, his natural position. The Milwaukee Brewers moved LaPorta to the outfield as Prince Fielder stood in his way with that organization.
"We're trying to give him regular work over there," Wedge said. "I just want it to be an option for us. We can still DH [Ryan] Garko or throw Garko in the outfield."
Expect LaPorta in the lineup tonight as they are facing a left-hander in Chicago's Clayton Richard.
