7-28-09 Morning Highlights
INDIANS 8, ANGELS 6 -- Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta hit back-to-back home runs in a four-run ninth inning to earn the com-from-behind win. The Indians had to overcome back-to-back-to-back home runs by Angels hitters Juan Rivera, Kendry Morales and Mike Napoli in the second inning off of Indians starting pitcher Carl Pavano. Morales added another home run in the sixth inning. The Indians have now won five straight games and six of its last seven. David Huff takes the mound tonight against Angels starter Jered Weaver, 10:05 start time.
ELSEWHERE IN THE AL CENTRAL:
TWINS 4, WHITE SOX 3 -- Michael Cuddyer's two-run, sixth inning home run made all the difference as the Twins evened themselves to a .500 record (50-50), trailing the division leading Tigers by three games.
ROYASL 5, ORIOLES 3 -- It wasn't conventional, but it was still a win for the Royals. Kansas City stranded 12 runners on base, but got a big day from first baseman Billy Butler. Butler was 5-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Adam Jones hit his 15th home run of the season for the Orioles.
RANGERS 5, TIGERS 2 -- Tigers centerfielder Curtis Granderson led off the game with a home run, but the Tigers couldn't do much else against Texas starter Tommy Hunter. Hunter went seven innings, striking out six and scattering five hits with the one earned run. Michael Young led the Texas attack, going 3-4 with his 14th home run of the season in the eighth inning.
