Acta ejected, but why
DETROIT: Manager Manny Acta was ejected in the first inning by plate umpire Larry Vanover, but the reason was unclear.
Asdrubal Cabrera was called out on a checked swing strike and apparently that set off Acta, precipitating his ouster, but that is far from clear.
Another theory: Acta intentionally got himself tossed to give outgoing bench coach Tim Tolman a chance to manage a major-league game. Tolman is resigning his position for health reasons. He is battling Parkinson's disease.
