Acta hoping Talbot overcomes the jitters
DETROIT: Mitch Talbot made his first start of the season, first start as an Indian and only the second start of his big-league career this afternoon.
Manager Manny Acta figured that the right-hander would be geared up for the occasion, maybe overly geared up.
""I know he's going to have some butterflies,'' Acta said. ""I just hope there won't be too many butterflies. I know he's excited, but I'm hoping all that will only last a couple of innings and he can settle himself down.''
Speaking of debuts, Lake County right-hander Joe Gardner made his professional debut Friday night and struck out 11 batters in four innings. Even so, he wasn't quite perfect, giving up one run, three hits and two walks.
Gardner already had made as big impression on Tribe staffers in spring training. He did not pitch last year after he was drafted in the third round out of UC Santa Barbara.
