Aeros blank Fisher Cats 12-0 Wednesday

By sstorm Published: June 10, 2009

KEY STATS - The shutout marked the Aeros biggest win of the season as the host pounded out 12 runs on 10 hits - two of which came on a pair of triples by Aeros outfielder Nick Weglarz...The 12 runs marked the largest margin of victory since Akron's 14-0 blowout victory May 21, 2006 at Harrisburg.

KEY MOMENTS - The Aeros scored four first-inning runs without the aid of a hit and never looked back in going on to add a three-run fourth and five-run fifth to add to the rout.

STORM'S STAR - Lost in all the offense was a strong outing by Aeros right-hander Jeanmar Gomez, who limited the Fisher Cats to one hit and a walk while striking out five batters over six shutout innings.

NOTES: The Aeros will send Indians right-hander Jake Westbrook to the mound Thursday for his second consecutive rehab start for Akron after undergoing Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery last year. In his first rehab outing last week, Westbrook limited the host Altoona Curve to just a hit and a walk over three innings. He is scheduled to pitch four innings or throw 65 pitches tonight - whichever comes first.

UP NEXT - Akron and New Hampshire (Toronto Blue Jays) wrap up the three-game series tonight at Canal Park at 7:05 p.m. Westbrook and New Hampshire left-hander Mark Rzepczynski are the scheduled starters.
