Key Stats: Akron starting pitcher Ryan Edell, a left-hander went seven innings, his longest start of the season, blanking the SeaWolves in the process. He struck out seven and scattered four hits.
Key Moment: Edell ran into his only trouble of the game in the seventh inning when he walked Alex Avila. The first base on balls Edell has allowed in his last three starts. After a single and another walk loaded the bases, Edell fought Erie first baseman Ron Bourquin, a Canton South High School graduate, in a nine-pitch at bat before getting Bourquin to ground into a double play to end the inning.
Star(s) of the game: The middle of the lineup did its best Murderer’s row impression. First baseman Beau Mills, batting in the No.5 spot, ripped solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings. In the bottom of the seventh left fielder Nick Weglarz, batting in the third spot, and No.4 hitter Carlos Santana, hit back-to-back home runs. For Mills, It was his third home run in five at bats. It was Santana’s fourth home run in as many games, tying a franchise record set by current San Diego Padre Kevin Kouzmanoff in 2006.
Up next: The Aeros continue their four-game series against Erie at 7:05 at Canal Park. Right-hander Jeanmar Gomez (7-3, 3.54 ERA) will pitch for Akron, while right-hander Pat Stanley (4-3, 4.62 ERA).
