Aeros top Altoona; Graham to arrive Saturday

AKRON AEROS 2, ALTOONA CURVE 1 KEY STATS: Aeros catcher Carlos Santana hit the game-winning and his team-leading 16th home run in the sixth inning...With Friday's victory, the Aeros recorded their 14th win in 19 meetings with the Curve so far this season. KEY MOMENTS: The Aeros took an early lead with a run-scoring fielder's choice by Kyle Haines in the fifth inning...The Curve tied the score 1-1 in the sixth on a Brian Friday sacrifice fly...But the Aeros answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run by Carlos Santana that proved the game winner. STORM'S STARS: In his fourth start with Akron since being signed as a minor league free agent July 7, left-handed pitcher Michael Tejera allowed just one run while scattering seven hits, tossing a season-high seven innings to earn the win.
NOTES: Indians right-hander Jake Westbrook threw a simulated game at Canal Park early Friday afternoon...Connor Graham, the minor league right-hander whom the Indians traded Rafael Betancourt to Colorado for Thursday, is expected to arrive in Akron Saturday evening. He has spent the season with the high Class-A Modesto Nuts in the California League, going 7-4 with a 3.14 ERA in 16 starts. Standing 6-foot-7, Graham currently owns the 6th best ERA (3.14) in the California League and has limited hitters to a .225 (68-302) average against with just two home runs allowed. In his last 3 starts with the Nuts, Graham went 3-0 with a 0.59 ERA - walking just four batters while striking out 24.
UP NEXT: The Aeros continue this seven-game home stand with second game of this weekend series against visiting Altoona (Pittsburgh Pirates) tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park.
