PEORIA, ARIZ.: Jason Donald's bruised left hand will keep him out of the lineup until at least Wednesday. By that time, Anthony Reyes will be back on the mound.
Donald was scratched from Saturday's game and has been told to limit his baseball activities to throwing and playing catch for three days.
""I did it when I took kind of an awkward swing and a miss the other day (Friday),'' Donald said this morning. ""I really couldn't swing a bat after that. So it's day to day to see how it goes.''
The originally was described as a contusion after Donald was hit by a pitch March 5. After missing the next five games, Donald played last Thursday and Friday.
The injury now is beding described as a bone bruise, which takes longer to heal. Donald underwent an MRI on Saturday, so doctors could pinpoint the location of the bruise. His hand remains swollen.
""Some days it's more swollen than others,'' Donald said. ""It got worse the day I took ther bad swing.''
By contrast, Reyes, sidelined with a sore right elbow, has passed all of his tests and will pitch in an exhibition game for the first time this spring on Tuesday. Whether he has enough time to compete for a roster spot is questionable.
