Brantley makes debut as DH
TORONTO: Michael Brantley had never been used as a designated hitter in the big leagues, so why did manager Manny Acta put him there for tonight's game against the Blue Jays?
""He's the only one of our players who has played all four games of the trip on (artificial) turf,'' Acta said. ""None of these guys are going to play every game. So Michael deserves a day off from that.''
Brantley didn't seem to object to getting a day off from playing the outfield, but he wasn't sure what he would do between at-bats.
""I don't know,'' he said. ""I'll have to check with some other people. But I'm excited to do something different.''
Acta didn't give Brantley any advice on the topic.
""There are plenty of guys for him to talk about it with,'' the manager said.
