Brown, Lewis called up in addition to Carrasco

CLEVELAND: As promised, the Indians called up Carlos Carrasco, who started against the White Sox this afternoon.

Manager Manny Acta also hinted that a reliever would be summoned, and that was done, as Jensen Lewis arrived from Columbus for his fifth stint with the Tribe this year. Unexpectedly, the club also called up outfielder/first baseman Jordan Brown, who started today's game at first instead of Matt LaPorta.

LaPorta had been expected to return to the lineup today after missing two games with a sore hip, but he remained sidelined with the injury.

At Triple-A, Carrasco compiled a 10-6 record and 3.65 earned-run average in 25 starts. Lewis was 2-1 with two saves and a 2.67 ERA in 24 outings with the Clippers. His big league numbers: 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 25 appearances. Brown batted .298 with eight home runs and 67 RBI in 83 Triple-A games. In the initial major-league stint of his career, he batted .226 with four doubles and one RBI in nine games for the Tribe early last month.
