Cabrera leaves Indians after death of grandfather

By Sheldon Ocker Published: April 17, 2012

SEATTLE:  Asdrubal Cabrera has left the team and been placed on the bereavement list because of the death of his grandfather in Venezuela.

He was pretty shaken up about it yesterday,'' manager Manny Acta said today. ""It was his grandpa, a very important person in his life.''

Acta didn't know when Cabrera would return but speculated that he would miss the remainder of the trip, which means three games with the Mariners and three with the Athletics.

To take Cabrera's place on the roster, lefty Nick Hagadone was called up from Columbus to give the Tribe eight relievers. Jason Donald will take over at short, and third baseman Jack Hannahan will back him up.
