Carrasco to appeal 6-game suspension
BOSTON: Word came from the commissioner's office this afternoon that Carlos Carrasco was being suspended for six games and fined for throwing at Kansas City designated hitter Billy Butler last Friday night, following a grand slam by Melky Cabrera.
""I'm a little surprised,'' ptiching coach Tim Belcher said. ""I guess they have to do something to set the precedent for Jerad Weaver. It was the same thing (with both pitchers) allegedly.''
Belcher was faceitiously referencing a pitch that the Angels' starter threw at Detroit's Alex Avila in the seventh inning Sunday.
Both Carrasco and Weaver were ejected, and both pitches came close to the heads of the batters.
""It's pretty standard when that happens,'' manager Manny Acta said. ""Carlos appealing the suspension, so he'll pitch here (Wednesday night), and we'll go from there.''
