Choo off DL, Kearns designated for assignment
There will be no more rehab games for Shin-Soo Choo. Instead of reporting to Columbus or Akron as the final step in his recovery from a broken thumb, he was activated today and probably will play tonight against the Twins.
To make room for him on the roster, the Tribe designated Austin Kearns for assignment. Kearns has struggled being strictly a part-time player. In 150 at-bats, he is hitting only .200 with one home run. If he clears waivers, he likely will be asked to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A, but he will have the choice to accept the assignment or become a free agent.
