KANSAS CITY, Mo.: Closer Chris Perez is tired of seeing his Indians teammates hit by pitches, whether intentionally or not.
Not long after the Tribe beat the Royals 11-9 in extra innings Saturday night, Perez Tweeted this message: ""Huge win tonight; time for a sweep to tell the Royals it's not ""Our Time,'' it's Tribe Time. P.S. You hit us, we hit you. Period.''
The Royals 2012 slogan is ""Our TIme.''
During Saturday night's game, there werre two throwing incidents, with Shin-Soo Choo being hit by Jonathan Sanchez and Mike Moustakas being struck by Jeanmar Gomez in what was clearely retaliation.
This morning, Perez explained the reason for his Tweet. .
""Last night, I don't think Choo was hit on purpose, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back,'' he said. ""I've seen Choo hit at least six times starting in spring training, and I missed three weeks of camp. So enough is enough.''
Perez's point is that weven though Choo isn't being hit intentionally, opposing pitchers will recklessly pitch inside if they think Tribe pitchers won't retaliate.
""I know the scouting report on Choo: pitch him inside,'' Perez said. ""And if they miss in, they hit him.''
For his part, manager Manny Acta is hoping today's game is a peaceful affair.
""This is not something that's good for either team,'' he said. ""We have the utmost respect for them and the job they're doing. I'm hoping this blows over and we move on.''
