Corey Kluber will make emergency start for Indians tonight

By Ron Ledgard Published: April 10, 2013

Corey Kluber will make an emergency start for the Indians, whose rotation got thrown out whack after Carlos Carrasco’s ejection for hitting Kevin Youkilis of the New York Yankees with a pitch.

Kluber will make his season debut on tonight against the Yankees, who thrashed the Indians 14-1 on Tuesday. In the fourth inning, Carrasco was ejected after he nailed Youkilis with his first pitch after giving up a home run to Robinson Cano. Carrasco, who just finished serving a five-game suspension for throwing at Kansas City’s Billy Butler in 2011, said he slipped on the pitch to Youkilis.

After Carrasco got tossed, Indians manager Terry Francona brought in Brett Myers, who had been scheduled to start today. Myers got rocked for seven runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Kluber went 2-5 in 12 starts last season. He began this year at Triple-A Columbus.

Carrasco was optioned to Triple-A Columbus to make room for Kluber on the 25-man roster.
