Crowe's shoulder shows improvement
GOODYEAR, ARIZ.: Trevor Crowe has begun taking dry swings in the batting cage and might start a throwing program next week.
Neither of those activities is likely to allow him to compete for a backup spot in the Indians' outfield before the end of spring training. But at least surgery remains a distant option for now.
Crowe understands that he has a long way to go before he returns to the field. ""The game isn't played in the batting cage with the trainer standing next to you.''
On Monday, Crowe was examined by a doctor, whose objective was to gauge whether the strength has returned to his shoulder.
""I think all the tests were positive,'' Crowe said. ""It was a re-evaluation to see if the time off helped the shoulder.''
Josh Tomlin threw three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two, as the Tribe beat the Reds 7-6 in this morning's ""B'' game. Chad Durbin made his Cleveland debut by delivering one scoreless inning and striking out two. Jason Kipnis had two hits and two RBI.
