Cuyahoga Falls' Hoover enjoying the Show
Cuyahoga Falls resident and former Kent State catcher Paul Hoover has spent the last the last two weeks in the Major Leagues serving as the Philadelphia Phillies catcher.
The 34-year-old is playing for his third big league club in his 15th professional season, having previously played in 28 games with the Tampa Bay Rays (2001 and '02) and Florida Marlins (2006, '07, '08).
Hoover started the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he batted .269 (18-for-67) with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI in 19 games for the Iron Pigs.
He was called up to Philadelphia May 12 after Phillies C Carlos Ruiz suffered a right knee capsular sprain and Ruiz's backup Brian Schneider, went on the DL with a left Achilles tendon injury.
