Damon out, Santana up, Acta gets exhibit A, Gallas honored
CLEVELAND: The consequences of Johnny Damon's two-base error carried over into today, when he was held out of the lineup because of back pain.
“”He’s sore,’’ manager Manny Acta said. “”He was pretty banged up after that play. We were tempted to take him out, but he talked us out of it. It’s his lower back.’’
Carlos Santana spent only one game batting sixth before moving back up to fourth, where he has hit most of the season.
“”With Jose Lopez not playing tonight, there aren’t that many guys I can put there,’’ Acta said.
Acta reminded the media on Monday that making a July trade is harder than ""picking a can of tomato sauce off the shelf’’’ of the supermarket. When the manager arrived for his pregame press conference todayt, a can of tomato sauce awaited him.
“”Does it bat from the right side with power?’’ Acta said.
Carolina outfielder Anthony Gallas has been selected by the Tribe as the organization’s Minor League Player of the Week for batting .478 (11-for-23) with a double, three home runs and seven RBI last week.
Gallas, 24, was non-drafted free agent out of Kent State whose home is in Strongsville.
