Family issue forces Duncan to leave team

By Sheldon Published: August 20, 2011

DETROIT: A pressing family matter caused Shelley Duncan to leave the team three hours before tonight's game.
The club placed Duncan on the emergency family medical list. Duncan must remain on the list at least three days but no more than seven. Manager Manny Acta said he did not know when Duncan would rejoin the club.
Ezequiel Carrera was called up from Columbus to fill Duncan's roster spot. Carrera had been optioned to Triple-A on Friday, and normally would be required to stay in the minors at least 10 days. But because he is replacing a player who had to leave for medical reasons, Carrera is permitted to return to the big leagues early.
