Good omen for LaPorta?
SEATTALE: Matt LaPorta hit three home runs in the first two games of the series with the Mariners. But there was a problem. All three were on the wrong side of the left field foul pole.
""That was always a good sign for me in college,'' he said this morning. ¶
All three came on different types of pitches.
""The first one Saturday was a fastball inside,'' he said. ""The second was a breaking pitch, and Friday night, it was something off speed. Maybe I can keep them fair today.''
Why have Tribe starters posted a 1.43 earned-run average in six games through Saturday. One reason They are throwing a lot of first-pitch strikes.
Manager Manny Acta tells them often enough that the message, and the message seems to be sinking in.
""They've been successful, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop telling them,'' Acta said today. ""It's easier said than done, but they understand. And having success, they see that it does work.''
