Hafner a late scratch

By Sheldon Published: May 18, 2011

CHICAGO: About 50 minutes before the scheduled first pitch between the Indians and White Sox, Travis Hafner was pulled from the lineup with soreness in his right side.

So far, that is all the information that's available to the media. Shelley Duncan took Hafner's place at designated hitter and batted seventh. Travis Buck, who started in left field, moved from seventh to fifth in the batting order.

How much would Hafner's absence weaken Cleveland's lineup? He had these career numbers against Chicago starter Jake Peavy: 4-for-15 with two doubles and one home run. Duncan has never faced Peavy.
