Hafner ""ahead of schedule;'' Kipnis rests
Manager Manny Acta said that Travis Hafner is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation program, but the club has not set a specific date for his activation from the disabled list.
“”Hafner started to take batting practice yesterday,’’ Acta said this afternoon. “”The next step is running. We anticipate that he will be ahead of schedule but there is no timetable for him.’’
Hafner has been on the DL since May 24 and underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Projected time for his return was four to six weeks.
Jason Kipnis finally was given a night off. He has started the past 60 games and been in the lineup for 66 of the team’s 67. In the only game he did not start, he entered as a defensive replacement.
“”He’s had this coming,’’ Acta said. “”It was something planned by the medical staff. By not playing tonight, he will have back-to-back days off (the Tribe doesn’t play today). He got banged up a little in the road.’’
