Hafner settles into new spot in lineup
CLEVELAND: Manager Manny Acta couldn't have been happier to have Travis Hafner back in the lineup after nine games without him in National League cities.
“”It was painful to have him out of the lineup for nine games, especially the way he was swinging the bat,’’ Acta said late this afternoon.
Hafner came off the disabled list June 17 and in his next five games batted .294 (5-for-17) with two home runs, one double and seven RBI. Then came the nine games against the Giants, Diamondbacks and Reds.
Hafner has batted fifth most of the season, mixing in a few games as the cleanup hitter. For now, he will bat third.
“”Now that (Shin-Soo) Choo is down, I think that gives us the best and most consistent lineup,’’ Acta said. “”I can throw out the same lineup every day one through six.’’
