Hannahan could be sidelined with calf strain

Jack Hannahan, the Indians starter at third base Sunday, left the game in the third inning after injuring his left calf. He was replaced by rookie Lonnie Chisenhall.

“I felt it on the single coming out of the box,” said Hannahan, who doubled and singled in his two at-bats.

Tribe manager Manny Acta was blunt after the game about the potential impact another injury to an everyday player could have on his team.

“It’s not good news,” he said. “We’re going to run some tests on him (Monday) and evaluate him. But if a guy like him comes out of the game…especially with a calf. They are very delicate injuries because you use it a lot when you push off your legs. It couldn‘t have come at a worse time.”

An inning later, first baseman Carlos Santana appeared to injure his right ankle while legging out a double and stepping awkwardly on second base. He limped around for a few minutes afterwards, prompting a brief meeting with Acta and a team trainer before the trio agreed he could stay in the game.

Good thing, considering Plan B.

“We were one injury away today from having a pitcher have to play first base,” closer Chris Perez said.
