Impaired vision doesn't keep Kipnis from reaching base three times
CLEVELAND: Jason Kipnis was forced to stop play in during his fifth-inning at-bat because something was in his eye.
“”I didn’t know what it was,’’ he said. “”Something was in my eye, and I couldn’t get it out. I thought it was just a normal eyelash getting caught in there, but that wasn’t it.’’
Head trainer Lonnie Soloff trotted onto the field to help.
“”I told Lonnie that when I lifted the corner of my eyelid, it felt better, that there was less irritation,’’ Kipnis said.
Soloff attached a two-inch strip of tape from the corner of Kipnis' eye up to his temple, a solution that worked well enough for the at-bat to continue.
Kipnis' vision was still impaired, but he took the nexzt pitch for ball four, buying time for the eye to recover. Kipnis went on to deliver a single in the seventh inning and again in the ninth.
