Indians' Chris Perez, Frank Herrmann out with injuries

GOODYEAR, Ariz.: Closer Chris Perez was scratched from today's exhibition game because of a subscapularis strain of his right shoulder.

He will cease throwing for 7-10 days and begin a throwing program when he is free of symptoms. The prognosis is for Perez to pifch in exhibition games in three to four weeks.

Perez, selected to pitch in the WBC for Team USA, obviously will miss the event, which begins next week.

Herrmann, competing for a job in the bullpen, is out indefinitely with a sprained right ligament in his right elbow. The Tribe medical staff is still considering the proper course of treatment.

RHP FRANK HERRMANN

Right elbow ligament sprain during last outing of Feb 25 at Oakland…The club and Herrmann are still in the process of gathering information for the most appropriate course of action. Frank is currently a non-participant in workouts and there is no timetable for his return.

RHP CHRIS PEREZ

Subscapularis strain in right shoulder (last outing came on Feb 26) ….Will not throw for the next 7-10 days and will begin a Return To Throwing Program when he is asymptomatic.  Expected to resume exhibition game activity in 3-to-4 weeks.  Chris will not participate in the World Baseball Classic and he will address the media tomorrow at 9AM MT in the Goodyear Press Room.  Terry Francona will address Perez post-game today on the field.

OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY

Suffered left arm laceration on Feb 25 at Oakland…Has resumed lower body strength and conditioning and cardiovascular training.  Will commence gripping activities this weekend in preparation for returning to limited baseball activities early next week

Simulated game yesterday, Live BP scheduled for tomorrow.
